Limited edition T-shirt featuring work from Oscar Murillo’s ‘Poetics of Flight’ series, produced exclusively with Blackpuffin. Murillo’s ‘Poetics of Flight’ series make pointed reference to air travel, with airplanes having become an important site of production for the artist.

Born in Colombia and based in various locations, O. Murillo (b. 1986) is known for an inventive and itinerant practice that encompasses paintings, works on paper, sculptures, installations, actions, live events, collaborative projects, and videos. Taken as a whole, his body of work demonstrates a sustained emphasis on the notion of cultural exchange and the multiple ways in which ideas, languages, and even everyday items are displaced, circulated, and increasingly intermingled.

Oscar Murillo - Poetics of Flight

Drawings, historically, are the formation of mark making. The origin of a thought, the beginnings of transcription. A transitional space moving towards something deeper.

In Oscar Murillo’s practice this is articulated in the form of constant presences. These drawings supersede what may have been their initial purpose and become a continuous attempt to automatize ideas, feelings and gestures.

Repetitive words indirectly call attention to an anarchic mind, global chaos, or simply a corrupted process. Calling out in search of deliverance.

Murillo’s drawings refuse to be spectacle, instead, creating and reflecting ambiguous possibilities and energies. They represent a spiritual journey through indigenous cultures and globalization, forming a labyrinth of migratory directions. These works long to transcend personal spaces, landscapes, and the toxicity of nationalism - leaving us the choice of redrawing society, history and the architecture which defines them both.
